INOC – Candiolo National Cancer Institute has earned the highest clinical recognition in the field of gynecologic oncology:international ESGO accreditation for its Ovarian Cancer Center, directed by Dr. Luigi Carlo Turco.

This designation, awarded by the European Society of Gynecological Oncology, certifies INOC as a Center of Excellence for advanced ovarian cancer surgery. This is a prestigious achievement that officially places INOC within the elite network of European facilities capable of offering the highest surgical and clinical standards for the treatment of ovarian cancer.

The Center is the only facility in Piedmont dedicated entirely to the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. With over 5,400 new cases diagnosed each year in Italy, the Ovarian Cancer Center stands out for its use of the HIPEC technique in advanced cases. As Dr. Luigi Carlo Turco explains, this procedure “consists of an abdominal ‘irrigation’ with high-temperature chemotherapy performed directly in the operating room.” The combined action of heat and targeted drugs targets residual cancer cells without affecting the rest of the body, reducing mortality by 33% and the risk of recurrence by 34%. Furthermore, clinical data show a doubling of 5-year survival rates, rising from 20% to 40% thanks to the use of HIPEC.

The Ovarian Cancer Center also uses cutting-edge technologies such as the Da Vinci Single Port robot for early-stage cancers, “which allows us,” explains Dr. Turco, “ “to operate through a single incision of just a few centimeters, ensuring the same oncological radicality as traditional surgery, but with minimal cosmetic impact and a drastic reduction in postoperative pain.” Thanks to a multidisciplinary approach, the Institute tackles complex cases by operating simultaneously on the abdomen and chest. State-of-the-art diagnostic technologies allow the tumor to be mapped with millimeter precision, tailoring the procedure to achieve maximum effectiveness with the least possible trauma.
